According to this report (CNSNews.com Sept.13,2010) over $800,000 in U.S. taxpayer dollars (adding to U.S. indebtedness to China) will go to teaching African males how to wash their genitalia. Some taxpayers may wonder how the rest of the $12 million will be spent.
Quote: The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.
The genitalia-washing program is part of a larger $12-million UCLA study examining how to better encourage Africans to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling – however, only the penis-washing study received money from the 2009 economic stimulus law.
There is no question that any kind of personal hygene is advantageous in inhibiting the spread of disease, but who is able to run the most efficient program? Is it the U.S. Federal government? I don’t think so! Here is an example of why the U.S. (and all others) should cease discouraging Christian missionary programs, abroad and at home. Privately run programs can do a better job for less money because they are doing it out of love for fellowman, not to get dollars from the government or to climb the publically funded academic ladder. Beware lest you completely secularize a (once great) nation; you may go bankrupt and hence be unable to fund any “good works” at all. We have forgotten all the good done by the benevolent in our nation’s history (foremost leading the fight to abolish slavery) while focusing on a few things we personally find offensive. At any rate, this is where we are today, how do we turn around beofre we are a second or third world nation ourselves? Begin by major cutting of the federal budget, eliminating and consolidating departments.
